I hesitate to ask, as I have just read the climbing topic idea thread, but would mountainbiking be a good topic? I am a beginner hiker and an experienced biker and would love to organize both trips here on the island. Is there a place someone knows of that I could find a quality message board for cycling (around Victoria)?

This is actually an interesting question Sparky... Would there be enough interest in something like this? I'd be game to create a sister board that is focussed on biking if there is enough interest.

I would humbly say I'd be all over it like a wet blanket!

The quality of this message board is amazing, the only reason I signed up. Having one similar to it for mountainbiking would be a dream come true. I usually avoided message boards because of the degredation into verbal poo that you had to wade through to find any type of interesting information. Five stars for this message board, the quality of the people and the discussions are just perfect! Lets get one for those who travel on two rotating pivot points!

(pardon my excitement...)

Sounds good... To get the ball rolling, what would you suggest the forum categories would be?

I'm with sparky on this one, would be ecstatic if there were a place to post biking trips. Not quite sure how you would categorise? Maybe separate on-road/off-road/difficulty levels (ie. I have trouble lifting my front tire to get over medium sized logs).

As for the immediate, something for you to look at Sparky is the allterraman competition. I'm considering entering, its held in Campbell River this year, and probably would be a great place to meet other groups from the island that bike. The website for the competition www.allterramancanada.com

Hm. Interesting website. I must say, however, that though I may love to swim I lack any type of efficiency.

As for the Forum topics, many of them would be along the same lines as the hiking topics:

*Biking BC
*Biking Alberta...etc...

*Gear
*Trail talk
*Roadies (?)
*Seeking biking partners
*Roadtrips (with car)
*Bike trips (without car)
*Sign-up board
*Technique
...

This would be my idea of it so far, I know a few overlap, but you get the idea... There are a few types of cycling (Downhill, freeride, trials, road, crosscountry) but Im not sure if they really need to be split into their own forums (maybe trials).

Jim

It would be great if you also had a category for "bike/hike trips": a few times I've been able to ride logging roads or trails, then hoof it once the grade gets too steep or rough. Dilly-Dally. Mt Landalt, and Little Diamond Head/Elfin Lakes for example.

This way, we can post trips where a mtn bike will make a trip mor epleasant/faster/shorter/extend range...etc.
