What is it that draws us to the mountains? For some of us we find solice from the fast paced life in the city, for others we simply want some exercise away from treadmills and weights. For some it could be spiritual, to look at the delicate beauty in tiny flowers to the awesome rugged beauty of jagged mountain peaks, and see the fingerprints of God. I think most of us can agree that, whatever the reason for going, the outcome is always some sort of healing. (Except of course, for Burnaby Hiker) I will go into the mountains with a number of ailments such as stress, mental fatigue, maybe a headache; but I always return somehow better than I left, despite my body screaming otherwise. Go and be healed.
This trip was shot entirely with a fish-eye lens.
This trip started off with a quick stop at the restroom at the tollbooth. Based on the comments of those coming out combined with that of Richard and Graham, DO NOT GO!. (One guy about 90 years old commented to his wife that it was the worse he had ever seen! (I think he can speak with authority given his age.)
Here we are at the trailhead. All geeked out with our goofy hats trying to prevent sunburn. Didn't work for me.
After slogging through the trees on a mostly, nay completely uphill climb we finally begin to break through into alpine country.
One of the many streams and waterfalls along the way.
A little bit more till we break the ridge.
Jim Kelly coming into view...
...makes someone very happy.
More waterfall/streams.
We skirt around the base of Kelly and head up to Molar Camp.
Holy Crap!!!!!!!! Who should we find but none other than Tim & Jenn, Boris & Monica, and Marc & Christine!! Cool. All we need now is a mirror, blade, & rolled up Sir John A MacDonald and this would be regular "Coq-party!" (Perhaps "Jim Kellypalooza" is more appropriate.)
(Tim, I used photoshop to remove your lower back tattoo just as you asked. Your secret is still safe.)
Hanging out near Molar Camp.
After a few chuckles we left the party and headed on down to Tarn Camp.
Near Molar Camp...
Good-bye Molar...
On the way to Tarn Camp.
There has to be some life analogy with this tree. Even under a tremendous burden, it refuses to be broken. (Pause for reflection.)
Tarn Camp. Coquihalla to the left, Jim Kelly to the right.

After a swim, snack, and nap, it was time to do some "Glamping" (Glamourous camping). We had marinated porkchops, new york strip, rice, Aussie merlot, Stella Artois, baked potato. To finish, dark chocolate, port, and a cigar. Legendary!!
We were able to watch the moon rise over the ridge.
Waking up the next morning, both my body and mind did not want to leave. Having spent 3 nights - 4 days up here last year, I know first hand how much there is to experience in this area, the best part being the solitude. My legs were still a bit sore and did not relish the hike back, and my mind was just getting used to no email, deadlines, bills, etc. Bummer. Must go back.
One last shot before we start to hike out.
Not wanting to hurry back, we opted for the long way round. Heading up through the pass between the two mountains.
We reack the top of the pass between the two peaks and are rewarded with views that heal.
The last of our elevation gain for the weekend....
....and one last moment to try and burn it to memory.
A few random pics taken on the long descent...
Last bit of alpine before heading back into trees (and reality.)
I could not have asked for better bud's to hike with! Great guys, great food, awesome scenery and weather. Another memorable trip! Thanks for coming, boys. Next time we'll drag Gord along with us.
Below are the links to my very first video, so be kind. I ain't no Boris. Still much to learn. (like how to steady a camera when your winded)

| Gotta love the glamourous camping menu - sounds awesome. Once a great debate was had over light weight food items, and our traditional restaurant stlye dinners. This ended at camp with my partner staring blankly into a pouch of freeze-dried spaghetti, while I pulled my shish kebab's off the grill. Sounds like you guys have the right idea (don't worry I shared). |

Healing is right. For me its a spiritual healing, I come home with my mind clear, my body aching and complaining at me. I come closest to inner peace (actually having been there a few times now) when Im in the backcountry.
Nice trip report, I like the photos |

Hey I didn't see cheese on the menu - were you hiding it? A trip just isn't the same without cheese |

Right on! looking forward to seeing your video too Bo.
Hey Mo, we missed you at dinner. I gotta say that 3 hr slow roasted lamb with special super secret herbs and spices is an AWESOME accompaniment to the regular instant mashed. |

| i think we get drawn to the mountains, because we get fed up with bs city life career, drama, control, television, internet. Then when we get out in the wild, we get scared back to our boring lives. And it just keeps hapenning all throughout our lives like a pendulum, back and forth |
