After the wet week we have had we were not sure how this paddle would turn out, but as it was, we had a great rain-free day out on the water. Friends from VOA and Ronbo and Alex from RMOC joined us. We were the only canoe, everyone else used single or double kayaks.
Previous report from 2005:

We were out 6 hours and it was our "guests" first time to the area. They saw seals, eagles, swans and enjoyed exploring the marshy islands. There is quite a network of channels and islands, and you can easily get caught in a dead end channel if you are not familiar with the system.

Conditions on the water were perfect, there was no wind and as we secured the final rope on the vehicle before heading home, the rain started. Talk about good timing! As for the half dozen families who had set up their picnic tables and BBQ's, we could only imagine the miserable meal they were about to encounter.
Thanks to everyone for coming out. It has taken us 2 years to co-ordinate this with Ronbo, and I'm glad the experience was a positive one.

| Hi Trillium...yes it was a good day. Great place to paddle, fun to ride the waves from the big ships and ferries, but the gumbo muck at the shoreline was super gross...hence the boots. Still cannot get all of it off of them. |

I grew up in Ladner so the deas slough is my old stomping grounds. There are some great channels and passage ways out there, even if you go down the river a little bit and out near the ferry dock in Tsawwassen. You can get turned around out there but as the saying goes "If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there". As far as the bank side muck goes the best I have found is 'goof off'. Stuff could peel paint off a jet. |
