Originally planned on going to mount laughington or williamson lake, but there is a locked gate over foley creek and the 4x4 access road described in 103 hikes is covered in downed trees and washouts. Thought about flora lake too but figured on there being too much snow.... Radium lake it was. I've never hiked it before and went to the old trailhead and discovered there's no bridge. Found out the new one starts in the chilliwack lake campground. The trail seemed decent enough for the first half. Moderately steep. Unfortunately the many windstorms the lower mainland had in the winter knocked over a lot of trees at one point on the trail. This slows progress as negotiating the obstacles involves climbing over them. There is some snow in patches up higher and due to the recent melting, lots of soggy spots. With the added distance from the new trailhead I think the hike is 8km each way. The ascent took 3hours 1 minute and the descent took 2hours exactly. Great hike. Here are some pictures, more on the way.

Looks like a great fourth choice!
I like the dark green forest. Nearest natural lake for me is 35 miles away. Only man-made reservoirs. No trees. Nice to see all the moss and cool forest!

Some friends and I are contemplating this hike for sometime soon when we can escape work and our childrens' activities. We have known about the washout for some time now and are designing our own crossing. Thanks for the insight. I will pass the info along.

This one is on my to do list, great pictures and report. Did you feel this trip was challenging? I'd like to do it solo but prolly should take a partner the first time around.
Happy trails,
Lynn

yes it was challenging. but only because it was the first hike of the season and there isn't much in the way of views on the way up. seems longer then it actually is. i've done a lot of running so i have the occasional knee problems (despite the fact im only 21). my knees acted up on the way down. pretty painful.

This one is certainly on my list as well, but part of going up to Webb this month.
