My new hiking buddy Trevor and I wanted to get out for a quick hike for the start of the season so we went to High Falls Creek north of Squamish. The 103 Hikes book said the hike was best in sunny conditions but we just wanted to get out. We convinced Trevor's friend Norm - who just moved from Winnipeg - and a friend Scott along with his friend Steve from England to join us.
The trailhead is easy to find and climbs initially through some easy bluffs. Along the way are a few good viewpoints of the creek.
There were also a number of good viewpoints looking over the Squamish Valley.
The trail meandered from points above the creek and then into the forest. At one point, we walked along a small cutblock but it was not active that day. We came across some snow on the trail around 600m but it quickly disappeared once we came out on to the talus slope below a road.
We scrambled up the rocks (easy) and then enjoyed the view from a bench on the road; very civilized. It was quite windy so we found a sheltered spot to eat. From this spot, we had a great view of Cloudburst Mountain and Trevor and I discussed coming back with snowshoes.
Scott had dropped his jacket along the trail and we were preparing to walk back down the trail when a group of people came up with his jacket; very nice!
We walked out the road which was easy and there were even a few good views up the valley.
At one point, we all had cameras out and it felt like we were part of a tour group.
It was a good day trip and took us four hours which included a number of stops to enjoy the views, tie shoe laces and have lunch. |

I have not been up that trail, that snowy mountain looks like a great place to snowshoe.
