It wil be great to have a proper lodge and ammenaties for all the people who visit Cypress each year. Make the resorts we have better or others will build more someplace else....
Not a fan of the Olympics but the upgrades at Cypress will be awesome... |

Call me a stick-in-the-mud but I liked Cypress the way it was, quiet and low-key with awesome views.
I was up around the Stawamus Chief today and saw that they are planning to dig up all that brush around the base and create all kinds of "viewing platforms" and such for the travelling public. I don't really see what for. I mean, you can already pull off the highway and look up at the Chief if you are so inclined. I agree that road needed upgrading, Olympics or no Olympics, but it looks like the whole character of the area is disappearing and it's not an improvement. |

New lodge, 2 new high speed quads, 6 new runs, and a lot of Trees are coming down!!!??
The double edge sword... Great terrain to open up for the non - self propelled people, but the landscape will be changed forever..
It may seem ironic that someone like myself may not be advocating the expansion of Cypress... I've spent years Snowboarding all over B.C. Ski Resorts, and each one has a certain special feel and a different charm... but to see Cypress go under the knife, is a little different.
The New terrain looks amazing, Medium Steep, with a good amount of off trail lines in the trees... Plus a full size 15 ft. Olympic Half Pipe. All in a south facing sunshine Vancouver / Ocean View direction.
Yet the point of the story for the community of ClubTread is the rapid expansion of the Olympics and just mowing down trees is a Titch Disturbing. ( Tree Hugger down deep )
P.S. Note the area for the 250 car paved parking lot. |

Yeah on Sunday I saw what they'd cleared so far. And what will happen to the winter snowshoe route to Black Mountain? Crossing half a dozen ski runs isn't going to be much fun |

| This is not what you can call "back-country"; nor is it pristine, old-growth forest. There is already substantial (ill planned and ill designed) development there. I would much rather see an improvement to existing development close to the City than new development elsewhere. |

I agree with ChuckU, this area was mistakenly slashed years ago and since then Friends of Cypress have created havoc on not allowing proper development of the Cross Country area. No one wants Cypress to level the area downhill or cross country but one only has to visit the area on a busy weekend during the winter to see how hard it is to park, get to lifts and have a great day, especially for the masses that do not have the luxury to ski during the week.
If they made more cross country trails by cutting a few more trees then beginners would have a proper place to ski without struggling uphill all the time. They could have actually held the cross country events there instead of developing the whole Callighan Valley. The downhill area will be a lot better for everyone and this development will allow them to clean up and make it look like a proper resort not a slashed out hill.
Development has to happen especially in a growing city. I grew up here and have seen it grow. It too bad things are busier, bigger and not as quiet as before however i have learned where to go when I want quiet time. You may lose a trail here or there but like many before they will get rebuilt and end up being even better.
