you need to put the picture into photoshop, or GIMP, or some other photo editing software and resize the image.
once it's small enough it'll upload no problem

... or you can upload 1/2 of the image at a time, then stitch them on the other side.

like this

and

Just kidding :)

Actually, Marc speaks the truth. You might want to check out Picasa as well. It's freeware and a little easier to use than photoshop or GIMP (also free)

And another thing to know is, you don't have to necessarily change the physical size dimensions... You can usually change the "File Size" without resizing the picture , by dropping the quality to 70-80% Quality. (Depending on the program) Some offer an easy option to resize (file size) the photo for web as well.

The pic was well worth it!

IrfanView is another FREE app that allows you to batch-resize pics.
PixResizer is another good one, also FREE.

I actually just use a Microsoft powertoy called Image Resizer. You can find it at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

If you want to cheat, get a flickr account, download the uploader, then set it to automatically resize your images to 800 px on the long side. Then, just re-download the pictures and upload them here. Or provide an offsite link to your flickr site, which I suspect Jimbo would like better, as long as you don't link big....

or you can right click directly from your folder, edit open with MSpaint and just resave as jpg and remember to rename it. MSpaint loads really fast, and resaving as a jpg will decrease the filesize to a CT friendly one.

if you want to use the other programs you can right click and use "open with" and choose the program.

This is convenient for quick resizing only. If you want to get a perfect resize and do other editing functions, use one of the above programs.
i've tried a few of the ones listed. right now i'm using HP image zone which came with the printer. lot's of good ones out there.

look forward to your pics

Or you can right clock and send to e-mail it will ask you to make them smaller, and then just drag them to your desktop and upload.

looks like you got it all figured out and as usual, there are at least a million ways to do it. I was amazed to read them all

And it is a GREAT pic. what thread did you actually post it in besides this one?

This is a great thread. Just wanted to bump it for anyone trying to upload photos that are too large. Making the topic sticky as well.

Good sticky topic! One thing to remember when resizing images is not to resize them too small. I use the MS Powertoy and resize to 1024x768. If I resize them to 800x600 640x480 then the CT website shrinks them again making them smaller than they should be.

Example picture resized to 1024x768 or 800x600 before uploading:

Same picture resized to 640x480 before uploading:

I always resize my pics to 800x600 for uploading on CT with the program that came with my camera (PhotoBase 4.5). That way it takes seconds to upload a picture here instead of up to three minutes and I never have "failure to upload" problems.
