Jim and co. When using the search function didn't we used to be able to search under all topics? Now it seems we have to pick the one where we think we will find it.
any comments?

| I took the "all" function out because of the load that is created on the server during a search. By doing the category, it cuts down the search dramatically. |

does it speed it up too?
it would be nice if you could choose more than 1 category to search, because sometimes threads are not exactly where you would think to look

| I have found the search function very helpful. Seems easy enough to me. I like it the way it is now, but I have not been a member long enough to know the previous. Thanks for having it a part of the system as it as provided me with lots of info regarding trails/TR's. |

I'd really like to see the search function allow searching in all topics rather than just a single topic at a time. My typical search is to go looking for anything at all related to a specific location eg: "Sumas". I'm interested in TRs, Trip planning, conservation - whatever, just as long as it pertains to Sumas. (or whatever site I'm curious about at that moment). Doing multiple searches becomes tedious and frustrating.
I understand the need to speed up the searches, so perhaps a compromise could be acheived:
If searching within a specific topic, allow the time frame to be unlimited. However, if searching in 'all' topics, then restrict the time frame to the last 30 or 60 days. I was doing that anyway and it worked well.
BTW: I searched for this very subject prior to posting - I first searched in "Site announcements" and THEN was successfull with the Site Feedback section. |

I agree with HP. There are times when I am searching for a particular thread, so I have all the info about it, but I don't know where it was posted. Was it the lodge? Trail Talk? Hiking BC Lower Mainland? Perhaps not "all", but a way to select multiple forums, because I can be pretty sure it wasn't in Paddling or Photography or Vancouver Island or Alberta...

| I'll probably be sorting out a better way of doing the search in the future - I have it on my list. At the moment, the standard search that is part of the forum taxes the server too heavily (i.e. tosses it at 98% for a burst). If you guys can hang tight for a while, I'll get something better. But in the meantime, I need to leave it like it is to keep things running smoothly. |

Just Google searching the whole site usually works much faster than using the specific search function.

I've done that several times, but I like how the CT search shows what thread it is in and the date, that way if I'm searching for something, I know if tis a whole thread devoted to that topic, or is was just mentioned there
