According to the gov, the spotted owl ISN"T in any threat of dying out? When was the last time i believed anything they spat out of their mouths?

I don't know what he was smoking, cause that is one of the most easily disputable remarks that it makes such an obvious lie. Even if we were to take into account the healthier populations from the States into question, they are not doing so well. (Although my wife spotted one earlier this year!)

Here are some links to the federal species at risk program. There are lots of scientific studies on this species, and the status of the species and its habitat are not in question (serious decline); however, there are lots of legal, social, economic and other questions about how to manage the problem.

You can search these sites to find the official documents that report on the status and recovery planning for the Spotted Owl and other species, including many that depend on mature forests.

The governments are working on it, some faster than others, and the NGO community is asking the courts to force some decisive action.
