Didn't get alot of sleep the night before Mt Temple so I was hoping that there wasn't any snorers in my shared room at the Lake Louise hostel. As it turned out there was one person snoring when I tried to sleep.
I gave up after a few minutes and went out to my car and attempted to sleep. Inspite of the couple of trains that went by during the night I managed maybe a couple of hours sleep.
I woke to people going out to their car at about 5:30am and decided that I wasn't going to see any more ZZZs. While forcing back a couple of packages of porridge I talked to another group who were planning to attempt Mt Niblock via Lake Agnes. After porridge I went to Laggan's bakery for a tasty but expensive breakfast sandwich (~$4.50). Grabbed a coffee and was off north 50 km along the Icefield parkway to Mt Weed.

Kane mentions some boulders the size of a small house near tree line which I was able to spot from the highway.
Mt Weed from the Icefield Parkway. The large gully on the right side of the upper face is where I was headed. The saddle is at the top of the gully
Approaching tree line and the house size boulders

Upper face of Mt Weed. (left photo) I scrambled the steeper stuff on the right to the saddle. Then I traversed the summit block to the final ridge and onto the summit
Looking north from Mt Weed
Looking south along hwy 93 towards Peyto (I believe, right) and Bow Lakes
Zoomed in on Mt Temple (left) and the Lake Louise/O'Hara group on the right
Looking down the route from near the summit

Alot of grunt work going up some talus/scree, but a enjoyable trip all the same. Had supper at the Lake Louise hostel and back to Calgary. Finally had a great sleep in the cool basement my home in Calgary.

cheers

Interesting report, Eco. We once climbed a big pile of scree in that area called Observation Peak. Judging by the photos, it looks to be on the same ridge that Mt. Weed is on, just a little bit south. Thanks for sharing the report!

Hmmmm. This peak's got an inspiring name. I think I know what I would do up there...

Something you don't see everyday, a collection of boulders that size. Any pics showing a closeup of those rocks?

hikerdude1970: I feel the same way about BC.

T2C: Parts of the route was a big grunt, but there were some nice scree channels on the way down.

Peak Bagger: Observation has some great views as well. It's just south of Weed.

SS:

KARVITK: I didn't get very good pics of the large boulders. Maybe these will give you an idea how large they are:

Thanks for the pics. I will bag this peak on sat or sun. Snowseekers idea is my inspiration.

Nice one. Observation is good too, has a similar view and starts higher so less elevation gain. Aren't those Waterfowl Lakes to right of Chephren?
