Saturday my daughter wanted to go to Chapters to use a gift card she had received. While there, I naturally drifted into the outdoors books section and stumbled upon a great little book: "The Camper's Companion: Tips and Tales for the Trail" edited by Robert Etheredge.

This very packable, slim little volume has all kinds of neat content: cooking tips, 1st aid, knots, wilderness navigation, order of hands for poker, survival tips, about 60 pieces of poetry, star charts and 6 short stories. Lots of little snippets and nuggets but also enough there that could be read and re-read during tent-bound days.

$19. A little pricey but I figure it's got enough readable and re-readable content to see me through an entire season barring a lot of really bad weather. And if it can see me through one season, I can take it year after year because I retain very little information for very long ...
