Thats an interesting affect however, I think the sunbrays though the clouds are more striking by far... also checked out the spaceweather.com pic, again I like pronounced sunrays though... thanks for the link!

There is a great reference book on the subject of atmospheric optical effects... and during my planetarium years I'd refer to it often. If you try to buy it it is usually out of print, but it is so valuable that it keeps popping up every few years.

This site is great (this is actually the same as that sundog.clara.co.uk site but with its new web address)

http://www.atoptics.co.uk/

I like how it mentions that some of the halo arcs are so rare (especially the Kern Arc) they have been seen but never photographed, or are only known through computer simulations. Sort of like the Loch ness monster or Sasquatch. It'd be soooo cool to be the first person to actually photograph one!

Well I gave this a shot.. but I think I prefer either all black and white or all colour.

Did someone say sasquatch?!! This one time, I was taking a picture of a waterfall along the Silver-Skagit Road. I got the image home and scanned it at a high resolution. While I was editing the image, I noticed what looked amazingly like a sasquatch looking back at me from the forest above the waterfall!

Original image...

Upon closer investigation...

What gives?!!

Wow, incredible shot Dru! Beautiful colours and lighting Could you see it shaping up or did it just suddenly appear?

If you held your camera off to your side you could get a shot of it encircled by its own halo. How cool would that be

Nice shots everyone!!

I'm hoping someone can tell me what was going on here. This was middle of the afternoon, up in the Downton creek area. Nowhere near sunset, no recent precipitation... I couldn't figure out why the sky would be red, so I took a picture and went on my way.
