I have been thinking of adding to the CT site and forming more of a portal. The forums would be the heart of it like is at present, but instead things could be better linked together and more feature rich.
That being said, I'm looking for recommendations on what you would like to see. This can be feature, functional, visual, etc. I'm open to all ideas. Please feel free to post to this thread or email me directly at jhamlin@clubtread.com. |

Whatever you do, I hope you will keep the feature of being able to upload photos from our own computers. It would only be enhanced by being able to upload multiple pics such as in yahoo mail or photo bucket.

Photo upload is definitely staying. Photos are awesome in the TR's!
Good idea on the multiupload.
Its funny, there are actually over 5GB of photos now! |

| it would be nice to be able to just browse through the photos directly instead of only through the forum, is there any way you could create a photo gallery link that would show all the photos chronologically from #1 to #75000 or whatever the number is at now? |

What about a small events calendar that we can click on a day and it will open for folks to view the various hikes set for that day. The could then click on the event which would direct them to more info, ie, time to meet, location, organiser, duration, car pool info etc. Thoughts?

Do you use the "active topics" link to see what's current? Each thread has a link to the page # from the active topics page. So for example, you can go directly to pg 47. Let me know, I'm curious where this would go as it sounds like an easy thing to add. |

Needless to say, this is the coolest site on the internet!
My union webpage utilizes this format and uses an internal mail feature and chat page. The chat page is in real time of cource, but isn't used that much. The mail thing might be handy for organizing hikes and stuff. |

Right on!
I was thinking about some sort of PM (private mesg) system. That way you could either email through the site to someone's email, or just send them a PM.
Thanks everyone for the feedback thus far.. Keep it coming! |

Whatever you do, it has to use Ajax and be Web 2.0 rich, and have member blogs and RSS Feeds and Podcasting and Vodcasting and, and, and...can never go out of Beta.
Yeah. That's it.

How about a gear review area... with so many members, and new ones always asking about x piece of gear, it would no doubt get used alot!
Also, something i'd love to see, is some kind of wizard style form for creating trip reports.
Much like Bas had started awhile ago... done in xml or whatever, so others could link to it... Standardization is gold :)
This would make searching for reports oh so much easier...
Also, take a look at this (I was hoping to have more work done on my home page, but this is the perfect time to show this feature...)
goto: http://thekellyfamily.ca and then click on 'Our Google map'
how utterly amazing would it be, to have all trip reports plotted over google maps... you wanna search for a area, zoom in, any where in the world... click on the pin and your looking at the trip report (in its standardized format of course, hehe)
greatest feature ever!! :)

a PM system sounds good, I use it on NSMB.com for buy & sell
I do use the active topics, but if I see a thread that I've been posting on in the top 5 recent posts, it would be nice to just be able to go to the end

and the google maps for TR's is the greatist idea I've heard in a while, it would save having to use the search feature to try find them, although I guess you would need the coordanets for alot of the locations
maybe just an alphabetical listing of all the TR's or something, seperate from the normal pg that goes in order of recent posts

Some awesome ideas! Tying in trip reports to a trail database is something I think is a must for the next version! I think the opensrc db for trails is a great idea - perhaps bas will allow me to leverage the code and do the hosting for it. If not, perhaps we'll have to create a thread that outlines what would be good things to know about a trail for developing the DB.
The wizard style idea is interesting... What did you have in mind for that feature? |

I would vote against the PM feature, I think. Given that most sites that have PM's, as opposed to emails, will notify you by email anyway when someone sends you a pm, an actual PM seems to me to be kind of redundant. And for those sites that don't send emails with a pm, what about the people that don't log in everyday?
But on the other hand, PM's are safer than emails.
Just my 2c. Frankly I like the site just as it is. Don't fix it if it ain't broke |

The nice thing about pm's is that you can contact someone without your email address being shown. If you send someone an email through the site, your email is attached. If someone ends up being a nutbar you could end up with them emailing you all the time. PM's are good.
