It's been 4-5 years since I last came up that trail after traversing down to Noble Creek over Mt Tom Taylor and Mariner. At that time the trail that had been so well hacked out of the bush a few years earlier was already getting quite over grown not that you shouldn't be prepared for a good bush trash at any time on VI. The old logging road bed that most of the trail follows in the valley floor had been washed away against a steep rock bluff in one spot. I was lucky that there was just enough remaining gravel to inch my way around but certainly that is gone now and the river is quite deep and fast at that point.
I haven't heard of any recent trail work since then so my best guess would be that a) it can be done but b) you'll need to be prepared to work around the obstacles and c) watch water flow levels in the river.
Other than that it is a great lowland trail/route. If you prefer the high country and want to head out toward Bedwell Sound and don't mind being off the beaten track and crossing the glaciers I'd suggest the route over Tom Taylor to Mariner and come down Noble Creek to Bedwell Sound. |
