what do you use? metal or acrylic scraper?

on sunday in manning powder, our skis were accumulating ice and my metal scraper was actually shaving off bits of base.

Metal scrapers are for flattenning you base when it's too high in the middle. For waxing & general use I use a plastic scraper.

For ice, I use a Save-0n-Foods card. I rarely/never shop there anyway.

yo J. Its easy to file and wax. Don't file too often as you'll just lose edge. This is pretty anal but look here

I only go in for major tunes when I've done stuff like this where my usual duct-tape and hose clamp fixes don't work

dude, you wreck your skis like i wreck my snowshoes.

tx for the link. btw: i meant filling, not filing. (i've always had trouble with that word.) i've gone 3 seasons without maintenance (if i dare to count last year). the ski tech was appalled at how dry the base was.

if the good lord didn't mean skis to get beaten to crap why make the bases out of anything but granite?

At home, I use a paint scraper. One with a thin, flexible blade works best. In the field, I use the metal edge of the other ski. At least I usually remember to have it with me.

What's this? Scrapers? For ice accumulation?

Hey, that's a great idea! I used my ski pole the other day, and it didn't work very well.
