Some say there are four musketeers, others say there are three. The purpose of this trip report is not to find out who "thinks what" but to let you know of something that happened this weekend. Something really fun called winter camping!

What do the musketeers have to do with this? I don't know! There were three of us and the idea just got stuck in my head...

Partipants: Shadee, Jimbo, and I
Destination: Poland Lake although we didn't quite make it there
Song in my head: Unskinny Bop, Poison. I have NO IDEA why I was singing this.
People met on the trail: Just a few skiers/snowboarders I think.
Overall rating of this outing: fully met expectations

My brain is a bit dead at the moment so I've decided to make you a list of words to describe this trip. I'm sure Shadee and Jimbo will fill you in on what happened...

chicken teriyaki
cold feet and/or hands
digging, lots of digging
giggles
no face painting
Home Restaurant
overbag...
sambucca, whiskey, brandy, Lions Winter Ale
Valhalla Pure Outfitters
crazy carpets
snow, lots of it

Here are my pics for you:

Going up... With Jimbo in the background taking pictures of us : )

My only outdoor picture. Jimbo took lots of them (I think) so that's my excuse this time...

Cold hands

The Setting. The Cave...

Unitooth girl waiting for her food. Unitooth girl wery hungry...

Yummy!!!

Winter Ale, la bière des vrais! A new group has been officially formed: CT Winter Ale...

Paaaaaarty time in the cave!

This morning, on our way back

Allright, I can't help it... Who's who you think?
D'Artagnan, Porthos, Aramis, Athos?

Hope to see you all Wednesday. Have a good week everyone!

Oupsy... I forgot about the tree... Will have to make it up next time I go out.

It wasn't that cold. I think it might have dropped down to -10 C at some point but with lots of warm clothes and a good sleeping bag, it was just fine. My feet got cold a bit but other than that I was ok. Jimbo had a thermometer in his tent so he might have a better answer than me.

Winter camping isn't bad at all...

Cupcakes (for a certain upcoming event )
face wash... crazy out of control crazy carpeting
snoring!
there was one other thing I thought of....
Brain is not functioning too well this evening - but basically I had an AWESOME time! Thankyou both Snowseeker and Jimbo for your deelightful company this weekend.
I am so proud to be a member of CT winter Ale - certainly a beer I will look for soon

Cupcakes were delicious - even slightly cold!
it was a comfort to hear snoring to know that no one had frozen to death, I really didn't feel like hauling out a frozen body this morning (actually it wasn't that cold last night.)
Winter camping is sssooo much fun!!
And the face wash... well snow flying up in my face while trying to steer and brake with my boots going downhill way before my time - makes for a very cheap and painful facial.

'till next time, when we'll get to use that fancy makeup of snowseekers tree attacks are purely optional..
Annie you bring out the worst no best, no worst in me.

Sorry, no pics from me, I spent too much time this weekend trying to keep my hands warm... I need better gloves..

PS: Maybe JImbo would like to share his story how he ended up with the purple fleece

This isn't like in the "Thornbirds" with the purple feather thing, is it?

Great so far, looking forward to the Captains' pics.

Hahaha! We did actually try... Not sure if it will work though. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

The face painting action was supposed to happen once we get to the lake. But since we didn't make it all the way, our plans didn't work. Plus I usually don't act too silly when I don't know people very well...

As for Wednesday, well I'll have to think about it. Too many new faces at one time, that might be a bit too much for me...

Jimbo... Where are those great pictures you took of us?

Great photos, Snowseeker! Shadee... you're going to have to actually USE that fancy camera of yours!

The first 300 or so metres of elevation gain was really quite easy!

The snow started falling shortly after we arrived - and never really stopped falling all the time we were there. Of course SnowSeeker claimed to momentarily see some stars last night, but that could have been the Winter Ale kicking in!

Trampelling and leveling a tenting spot

Our camp setup - complete with our cooking and eating den, thoughtfully dug by Annie. She told us that the digging reminded her of her childhood winters in Quebec - digging snow caves and ruining her father's saw cutting snow blocks.

Heading back down - SnowSeeker and Shadee riding the insane carpets. Actually looks like a lot of fun - if you can see where you're going, that is.

Weekend's overall rating.

Wonderful weekend out with a couple of great ladies! Very nice to meet you, Annie. See you both at the Montana's ribfest

ps - it did get down to about -10c / 14f last night, but was back up to about -5c / 23f when we got up this morning.

Hahaha! Finally I can go to bed now. Thanks for a great weekend Shadee and Jimbo!

Btw I DID see some stars. Out of the three I think Shadee was the one who had a bit too much to drink, don't you think? This crazy story she made up of Jimbo ending up at the lodge in the morning, now that was something! I actually had a laugh about it tonight...

Here's what really happened in the Cave:

A bit of drinking and some disco dancing...

(hope that one's ok with you Shadee...)

Nice! Haven't been on an overniter for a long while. Got two planned this spring, though. I have one problem, though here in the upper Mojave. No WAY can I keep my beer cold like you guys!

There's nothing like living in the Great White North Beer Fridge! Actually, it was a great introduction into the fun of Winter Camping. I'm looking forward to getting out there again soon.
