This past weekend, I went to Elfin lakes and really enjoyed the nice cabin there. Are there any other snowshoe-able overnight trips to cabins in the Vancouver area?

There are a lot of cabins that you can go to, but none are nearly so posh and easily accessible as the Elfin Lake Cabin.
From South to North along the sea to sky highway you'll find: Mountain Lake Hut Elfin Lakes Cabin Tantalus Hut (difficult access in winter) Burton (Shpinx) Hut Brew Hut Russet Lake Hut Wedgemount Lake Hut (access is very steep - difficult in winter) Wendy Thompson (Marriot Basin) Hut Keith's Hut
North from Pemberton: Place Glacier Glaciology Cabin Brian Waddington Hut Tenquille Lake Cabin
Off Lilloet Lake Road: Lizzie Lake Cabin
An internet search should give you lots of information on these huts. and how to get there. Accessing some of these huts requires crossing avalanche terrain, so be prepared. |

Matt Gunn's book also lists all the huts in the area as well, complete with directions, etc.

There are also four cabins in Tetrahedron Provincial Park on the Sunshine Coast, but I don't know what the snowline is there right now as it's a little low. The Bachelor Lake and Edwards lake cabins are very reachable in a day trip and the elevation gain is quite minimal since it is on a bit of a plateau. If you google the park you'll get a link to the local ski club that maintains the cabins. They have a snow phone you can call that gives conditions, as well the the date of the most recent plowing of the access road.
Also, there is lots of info on huts on bivouac.com if you buy a membership. |
