| It would be nice if images would be scaled to 600 px on the vertical only (while constraining proportions) rather than to 800 px on either the horizontal or vertical axis (depending on which is longer). Or better yet to 800 px on the shorter axis rather than the longer one. At this point you can't upload any panoramas without the system scaling them down to an unviewable size. And since the regular image include seems to have been replaced with an auto upload feature...it's impossible to show any panoramas on this site properly... |

Cris, what program are you using to splice images into a panorama? I'm currently using Autostitch but want something better (besides Photoshop).

I'm also using Autostitch. Works well enough. Panorama Maker was quite good too... |

After stitching your pics together with AUTOSTITCH, you can re-size them with PIXresizer from http://bluefive.pair.com/
Excellent little app that can batch-resize or individual pics! Chose pixel width, % of original while maintaining proportions!

The big thing is to try and keep the file sizes to a somewhat reasonable size. There is already nearly 4.5GB of photos on the site even with the resized ones!
What I've done in the past is if someone has a pano, they can email it to me. I'll FTP it up and then send them the link. |

| Most ISP's also provide some webspace to upload photos and such, so one could FTP the photo there and then provide the link on C.T. |

Yep - and by the looks of things we're adding 1,000 photos per week on average now (2,000 if you include thumbnails). There are over 61,000 photos uploaded now.
If we were to add a pano feature, any ideas on maximum dimensions for them? Currently images are resized to a max of 800 x 800. Maybe a max height of 200 and a width of ____ for panos? |

Here is one idea. Don't bother uploading a pano. Just upload the actual photos in sequence with no spaces between the img codes. This gives us the actual pano uploaded in sections.
I'll try an example...

It should be obvious these 2 shots form a pano but you can click on each part of the pano individually....
It would be a lot better if there was no overlap between the two images, of course. |

How about <2000 as long as it's under 50K.
If you turn down the JPG quality, you can reduce the size quite a bit without making it too washed out. The pano below is <30K (1758x300).

I'll see if I can put something together within the next couple of days. We'll try it with 400 x 1600 as max size and see how it works.
Gotta admit, it would be nice to see all the neat panos you've all created...
If you really want to link to an external image, cdanes, just include a link without the [img ] tags. People can figure it out from there. |

Okay, it took more than a day or two - but at long last it's live!
You can now indicate that the image you're uploading is a panorama. The max dims are 1600px wide x 400 px tall. Let's see how this works - then adapt as necessary.
