I've been looking around to grab one of these lately, or something similar, and found this today at the North Van Wal Mart, for only $8.97. I'd seen it before at Best Buy for twice the price. Folds up nice and compact, is fairly light, and adjusts well. Perfect gear for that CTer who wants to give Simon a run for the money in the self portrait derby But remember, he's had lots of practice

Leg lengths are 4 1/2", 6 1/2" when extended, btw... |

I've been eyeing those too, Mick, but have been holding out for a bean bag. Only problem is that I don't know where to find one. Anybody have any ideas?
Re Simon... very impressive how he manages to click the shutter and then pose (something like) 100' away. Almost scary |

Well, SC has two cameras, one with a 30 sec timer, the other I think is a 60 sec timer. |

I have the same model, Mick. It's come in very handy for group shots.

Mine is an optex with bendy legs, got it for 5 bucks at future shop... can easily put it on uneven ground and wrap them around a tree.... very impressed with it.

| I've been using these things for a couple years now. works best with light cameras though. I found that the lockdown feature to keep the camera upright weakens with heavier cameras. |

I got an Optex from London Drugs that looks the same as this, but has telescopic legs that go out to about 7". Makes a very stable and adaptable platform.

Both my cameras have ten second timers. Which means I do have to run fast sometimes to get a photo. I have a few shots of me in mid-flight. My Panasonic FZ5 also has a two second timer which is great for doing tripod landscape shots/sunsets/big zooms etc.
Mick: 'bout time you got a 'pod. Now Blackfly has to get one too so he can perfect his self-portraits .

Now if your camera had a remote control, like my Digilife hybrid does, you could do all sorts of things using the tripod. No more rushing to get in the picture.
Here's a question? Why would you plug your digital camera into your stereo's input jacks?

My old Pentax WR90 had a remote and it was great. I don't mind rushing as I seem to be rushing through life most of the time (I can fit more things into life that way). As for plugging into the stereo, I'm not too sure. I've plugged into the TV to view pictures, so I guess you could hook into your stereo system to view through your TV or save onto a DVD recorder.

Well, looks like I had that info confused, SC, to say the least Yep, I'll be working on new poses, I guess. Is that a good thing? |

The camera has an mp3 player. So you plug its earphone jack into your stereo's input jacks, and voila, mp3 on your home stereo.

I'm working on the ultimate arm's length self-portrait I have a small tripod, but I always forget to bring it. I guess if I had it with me then I'd have to figure out how to use the damn timer |
