I saw the "Notice of Alternative Approval Process" in todays Tricity NOW paper and thought I would see what everybody though about this..

quote: On November 26, 2004 the GVRD Board authorized the Chirf Administrative Officer to negotiate a Memorandum of Understanding with Bowen Island Municipality (BIM) for the sale of approximately 38 acres of surplus land at Crippen Regional Park (the "Surplus Lands") for approximately two million dollars.
Personally I think it defets the point of having preserved parkland if they later sell it... How can a park have surplus lands? |

It doesn't have "surplus land",so it's obviously a cash grab.It wouldn't surprise me at all to see this kind of mismanagement increase in the future. If a municipality owns it,it may later be designated for development |

| Shouldn't they be increasing park land...not selling it to the person who will pay the most! |

My thoughts exactly guys, in that pdf link you can send you opinion to the GVRD and if 10% of the electors sent one in then it will need a public vote to pass...
I doubt we could ever get 10% of the electors to do that, so I'm sending an email to my local Mayor encouraging him to vote against it... For your local rep see: http://www.gvrd.bc.ca/board/membership.htm
I think passing this would set a bad precident that park lands can be bought off... |

If you look at the map the "surplus" is a collection of disconnected properties. Calling a 0.42 acre lot a park is a stretch. Maybe they'll use the money to improve the park or buy more land elsewhere. |
