I think it's time there was a thread for just this purpose.Last Saturday,it happened again, like it always does.A swatch of colour, and the gleam of mylar fifty yards away, followed by me sprinting off through the brush
A while back I think Dru proposed a scoring system,so here's how it'll work...

**** FULL MYLAR SPECIAL OCCASION.....10 points

*** FANCIER CELLOPHANE GLOSSY(see Bf's first submission).....7 points

** STANDARD BALLOON.......5 points (with at least some air)

* CORPSE ONLY( no ribbon, no air) ...............2 points

***************NO POINTS AWARDED FOR CONDOMS**************************************

Points added for the following properties, as overall bonuses...

***add 1 point with ribbon attached
***add 2 points if fully inflated

***add 10 more points if you get the balloon while it's still flying in the backcountry***
ALL BALLOONS MUST BE CAPTURED TO BE ELIGIBLE AND OF COURSE PIC PROVIDED
Feel free to post your entries,SCOREBOARD appears in this thread, posted further down

Some submissions-location should be given.......

Garfield Valentine's Day,near Semlin Creek,Seymour River Valley,partly inflated,w/ribbon........12 points

Happy Birthday
Will Koop Trail,Seymour Valley,deflated,w/ribbon.......11 points

Enchanted Forest Trail,Lynn Headwaters
Blue ribbon.....2 points

Oh,and ID 74,if you read this, made ya look
I'll agree with you on having to catch the balloons to be eligible,Dru.

That one is a forever classic,Dru
Here's a series from NS Explorer, taken from the summit of Coliseum Mountain

The last pic is blurry, but I count at least a dozen, obviously ribboned, apparently from someone's 40th birthday. So that's at least 216 points. They are all standards,no mylar specials(8 per balloon plus the ten bonus each as they are all flying still)

Mick,

Curious about how the balloon featured in the following story would score. Check the following link and scroll down to the second photo:

http://www.climb-utah.com/Powell/sandthrax1.htm

I think special points should be awarded for a case such as that described.

Good thread, Mick.

Oustanding contributions so far!

7 points for this one - found on the upper Lynn loop a couple of weeks ago. I've seen a few others - but alas, this is the only one I've photographed.

I'll agree,Dru,with your suggestion-no points unless you corral themSo we'll think of Doug's as the "lunker that got away"
TMC,you have a partly inflated mylar Valentine's Day special,so it'd be worth 13 points,as it was not flying on its own.Dru's submission,I'm assuming, was able to stay aloft on its own,and so merited the ten points flight bonus (Perhaps another 10 points is in order if the balloon is plucked out of the air,or if you climb a tree to get it?)

Great idea Mick!

Both of them were found on Meadowdome. The second one is kinda pathetic, really but still a balloon. The first is what, 5 points? Do I get extra points for finding two within a few minutes of each other?

So that gives me a lowly 6 points. Sheesh. I'm never gonna catch up to Dru at this rate

BF,the first one,if non mylar,is a 5 pointer.The second,ribbons only,with or without corpse,a two pointer
Spunky, your looks like a standard, pretty much fully inflated with ribbon, which is an 8 pointer. If you caught it flying it would be eligible for the ten point bonus, pushing it to 18 points....

Any points for this one? Two fully inflated birthday balloons.

I don't have a pic, but I did find one red mylar one on that no-darned-good Memaloose Trail up by Poland Lake. Will remember to get pics (for points) next time

The pink balloon wasn't in the air Mick - found it on the ground. But I also did find this other one - same week-end trip but this time AT found it going up on the Blinch saddle ...

We also have a ribbon from Blinch #7 - only on the video cam though. Will try to retrieve it

I need to consult with the rules committee, but seeing as I don't have one, what do you think about balloons that are imported rather than found,Dru?
What you did to get it,though, now THAT is worth points somewhere!
