Great photo's guys. A while back we climbed the Kautz Glacier route. On the way up we overnighted at Camp Hazard and then we descended via the Disappointment Cleaver. What gives with some of the names on this bad boy? |

Great looking trip, guys! Been contemplating that one myself-minus the Red Bull. Are you sure the champagne guy wasn't just some post-stimulant induced, altitude-supported hallucination? |

Amazing! I can't stop looking at those photos... Also, good to know about the elevation sickness... I'm flying in from sea-level to 4000m (Bolivia) in a couple of weeks...so it's good to know how others have felt going to the same elevation that fast...
Great TR! I'm still drooling at those photos....

Hey rapscallion, how did you like the route up the Kautz. We were thinking that someday once the trauma is behind us we'd like to go back and try a different route, probably lib ridge, but I'm interested in some of the others.
Speaking of Kautz, the evening before our summit bid we were in the bunkhouse trying rather unsuccessfully to fall asleep. I was kind of drifting in and out when out of nowhere from the bunk above me Jeff yells "Cowww-tsss". I don't know why but in that setting it was the funnest thing I'd ever heard and I almost killed myself laughing. Just goes to show that even moderate elevation can mess with your mind. |

I don't think it will be a problem unless you start exerting a lot of energy right away. The long walk across the crater for example felt pretty much normal to me but just going up the crater rim on the other side to gain the extra 20 or 30M to the true peak got me huffing and puffing again. I am sure just spending one or two nights at 4000M's will be enough unless you are going peak bagging right away.
BTW What's on the menu in Bolivia? |
