To the person who locked up the other thread. What kind of message are you sending when you dis-allow people to respond.
Exscape took the time to respond to my comment, in what came across very derogatory and I can't even say anything in response. So basically the note you left that thread on was her having the last word. If you want to be "fair" then delete the whole thread entirely. Because as it stands it's ridiculous to cut people off from responding if they want to.
I'm happy to drop the topic. However, I'm not happy to be forbidden to respond when a comment is directly related to something I have said.
Anyway... I'm thinking perhaps it's better to stay quiet on here. |

These things do tend to get carried away, and somebody has to say when enough is enough. I did.
I respectfully asked for the topic to be dropped, but people continued to post.
In all fairness, I really should have deleted Trillium's, Russ's, and Exscape's posts - but I didn't |

If you want to respond to something I've said feel free to email me.
Not meaning to sound derogatory, just feeling feeling a bit cheeky. It happens from time to time.
Perhaps thread was ended (and sorry Jimbo, I was busy typing as you posted your last hint ) not to cut you or anyone else off, but as a hint that really there is nothing further of any merit to discuss re: that locked topic. |

I agree with you Idealistic. It is rediculous to cut off a thread like that. The thing is it wasn't even that bad. The flaming was quite moderate. What people don't realize is that they have an option to not look at a thread if they don't like it.
I find it pretty lame that people are so opposed to singles hikes. I mean c'mon...don't you all have some thing else to whine about? If some one does not want to post a trip normally but then decides to post one and say singles only then what's wrong with that? If you don't want to go then don't. If you want to go on that trail then organize a trip yourself instead of whining about it. If you don't like the thread don't read it.
This thread will probably be locked down soon enough. They are afraid of people going against the grain here. Everything can't be roses all the time.
People have different opinions about things and to lock a thread when there is controversy is a chicken sh!t way out.
I like a bit of controversy on the internet boards once in a while...people say some pretty funny stuff on those threads some times. Makes for more interesting reading. |

IMO (in my opinion!!!!) anyone who wants to go on a singles-only hike probably isn't worth meeting....so go ahead, organize your hike.
Organize a singles dinner, speed-dating, better yet speed-hiking, but do something!
There is far too much yammering on this site. |

That's pretty closed minded to say that.
Won't be organizing any of those myself since I am married...and wouldn't go on one anyway. Just saying there is nothing wrong with it and for those that are whining about it don't need to read the thread.

Keep in mind you don't have to read the threads that you think are too "yammery" |

| Actually, reading your post again it comes across as being a little bit derogatory to those that would go on some thing like that. Too bad for you. |

The 'Right' to respond..... I don't think so.
Being here is a privilege not a right. It's Longshadow's site and we are all just guests in his house, so try acting like one

ok that is it. I've succumbed.
Hodge and Shaggy> If this is a place where one does not have the right to speak their mind then I'd like longshadow or Jimbo to tell me themselves - since afterall this is their space. Because if a person does not have the right to respond on this message board it is not the kind of "house" I want to be visiting.
I don't think I have been disrespectful to anyone. I've simply stated my opinion. If you believe people must not speak their mind or their opinions on this forum then so be it - afterall, I believe you have a right to your opinion. |

Aye Carumba, can't we just all be friends? ?? You know, what strikes me as peculiar about this ongoing "debate"is that there is no right or wrong here.Things have deteriorated into something other than what they started off as.(Where is Bearbait, for example?)My two cents, even when I was single,I'm not sure I ever would have gone on a singles hike or not,but I don't feel threatened by the concept at all.... Longshadow's original mission statement for the site was to keep it hiking related, and to keep discussion relevant.Really,it is his site, and we really are guests here.
When I boxed the referee used to explain the rules in the ring. He'd say"I want a good, clean fight. No hitting behind the head or below the belt.If you score a knockdown you go to the nearest neutral corner and await my instructions. Now shake hands and come out fighting" After the bouts we'd all drink beer together! Idealistic74,stick around,I like your sense of,well, idealism. There are plenty of strong opinions on the site, that's what makes it good

it is one thing to express an opinion and it is another to turn it into a long extended argument in a "hiking club"...this isn't an arguments forum.
jimbo and longshadow, this is your site and you have every right to close a topic if you feel it is getting out of hand or turning into something that has nothing to do with this club.
just my thoughts.

That wasn't directed at you specifically Idealistic, beyond the refrence to 'rights'.
My point is simply this.... if I'm a guest on someone's board, or at a party in their house.... whatever... I will happily partake in whatever the converation happens to be. Just keep it polite and use a bit of discretion, or expect to be told to "shut the f..k up and leave"
