I just put 3 family trips on the BCMC schedule. Preference is given to members but if I don't have the trip filled with members, non-members are welcome to come along.
July 12-13 (Tues-Wed) - Yellow Aster Butte, Mount Baker area.
July 18-19 - (Mon-Tues) - Lake Anne, Mount Baker area.
August 31 - September 1 - (Wed-Thurs) - Marriot Basin, Duffy Lake Road area.
There is also a trip over the July long weekend (1-3) to Mountain Lake Hut but I suspect that one will fill up with members pretty quick.
All trips are kid and dog friendly and do not require 4wd. (except for Mountain Lake Hut which may require 4wd but AWD might do the trick. We'll have to wait and see what has been done on the road since last year.)
By the way..... we have a new policy in the works. If you are a BCMC member you can now add your children on as jr. members for free.
Shoot me an email if you have any questions.
Anyone else have any family trips planned for the summer?

I hope to get out with one or both kids pretty much every weekend in July and during the 2nd half of August through Labour Day. No firm destinations set yet although we usually start with Garibaldi Lake on the July 1 weekend. Joffre, Cerise Creek and the Lizzie Lake area are strong possibilities. Marriot Basin is another. Galena Chain Lakes. Heather trail to Kicking Horse camp. Maybe a return to Wedgemount with my daughter. Russet Lake is a must. Hmmm ... so many hikes, so little time.

The organizer of the July trip put together a hike to check out the route to the hut today. The road is ok for 2wd's that have good traction and reasonable clearance. Corvettes won't do. The last 1/2 km has gentle but deep waterbars that will be a problem for low-slung or vehicles with long overhangs. But one could park and walk that bit. Portions of the drive down provide spectacular views of Howe Sound.
The route to the cabin is mostly straighforward. There is still lots of snow up high. There is a short section of steep sidehilling on a poorly defined trail where we think it would be advisable to set up handlines for the younger kids.
Here's some shots from today.

| Well, I am a kid, and until summer of 09 we didn't do much, but some of my personal favourites would be Needle Peak, Tricouni, Tomyhoi, and if you're up for the challenge, Baker. |
