Switzerland is, in my opinion a better place to spend time than BC because of more culture it has. BC is seriously lacking in history than Switzerland, which has history well before the time of the Romans. Also, skiing and outdoor activities are in the Alps better than in the Rockies of BC.

Your right about the history thing. I would take the uncrowded slopes of the rockies over the congested and packed runs of the alps anytime.

lol whistler. Overpriced and overcrowded. I'd take Lake Louise over Silverstar any day. Don't get me wrong though...I love Whistler due to the huuuuge amount of terrain there.

Have you tried both on a number of occasions? I have and yes, there is culture. Also crowds and no true wilderness...You want remote, serious challenges try Alberta and BC.

I was born in England and I am always partial to Switzerland as my mother went to school there and has fond memories of skiing in the Alps for her PE class! It is definitely true that Europe has an obviously rich history. Many people who live in North America talk a lot of pleasure in visiting Europe and taking in the amazing sites and exhibits. You are obviously proud of your country, and you should be.

Now let me give you a little history lesson. British Columbia was home to thriving First Nations cultures (aboriginal/native) for thousands of years, long before the Europeans arrived and decimated their way of life and much of the population. Quite frankly, it was attitudes similar to yours that allowed this to happen. Europe is not the only part of the world with any significant culture or history.

The artwork that is produced by British Columbia's (and Canada's) First Nations artists is recognized around the world (and if it is not respected or historical as your posting claims, perhaps you would like to help lobby European museums to return the First Nations artifacts that they looted throughout the 1700s and 1800s). I could go on for ages to explain the sophistication of these cultures. Some of the First Nations villages on Haida Gwaii are designated by UNESCO as world heritage sites.

British Columbia is rich in history, natural and social. It is unfortunate that Switzerland's history and culture has not opened your eyes to appreciate different histories and cultures but has instead made you a Eurocentric.

You are also in need of a geography lesson, as the Rockies only make up part of BC's vast mountain ranges. You could spend YEARS visiting our wonderful province and not explore all of the diverse regions for outdoor activities. Having lived in Europe and lived here, you cannot compare the scope of the land in Europe to what is here. If it were a competition, which it is not, we would win that one hands down.

Klaus you went too far this time...i know it is you...don't hide behind another name... I'm 99.999% sure this is Klauses doing. If not them i'm sorry, Klaus and I had a huge argument about which is a better place and this is his way of expressing his opinion-which isn't very good. But so far, most of the posts are against Switzerland!

WHAT!!!!!!! I have never heard such NONSENSE in my life. Yes, I'm Swiss, yes I'm proud of my country, but no, I did not post this forum. You must be mistaken.

On another topic, I do agree with the statement about Switzerland being rich in culture, and about the awesome skiing, but BC also has both history and culture. The aboriginal peoples were here for ten thousand years before the first Europeans, and if you dig through history records, their culture is both varied and rich. I must admit, though, that I also like European culture very much, and would like to be back in Switzerland A.S.A.P. It to is an awesome country.
