Shot in the dark here...
I was just wondering if anyone has done any backpacking anywhere in Nunavik. Been thinking about a trip one day, and it'd be cool to hear some stories about experiences people have had there.

That's the name of the new(er) territory up north. (Hope I spelt the name right...)
Nunavut is in Nunavik.

Nunavik is that portion of the arctic that is within Quebec.
Nunavut is not part of Nunavik nor visa versa. Each is a distinct region. Inuvik is part of the Northwest Territories which is separate from Nunavut. Iqaluit is the new capital of Nunavut.
Having said all that I think you are referring to hiking in Nunavut, since I have not heard of many people looking to hike in Northern Quebec. There is excellent hiking in Nunavut. One of the most accesible and spectacular is Auyuittuq Park on Baffin Island. One of the problems is the high cost of reaching these hiking areas. Scheduled flights north + charter flights can make these trips very expensive. They are best undertaken with a group of friends to defray charter costs.
Hiking on Ellesmere Island has been an experience that dwarfs all the hikes I have ever done. Without waxing on, there is a connectedness of soul and nature that can best be described as ethereal. Returning to the worldly, it is hellishly expensive to get there and back. |
