Directions
In Pitt Meadows, turn off Old Dewdney Trunk Road and drive north on Rannie Road until you reach Grand Narrows Regional Park. Here is where you can pitch-in your canoe - or you can rent one down at the docks from Ayla Canoes. Day parking is free, and overnight parking is $5.00 per night.
Canoe 4.5km from Grant Narrows to the camp/picnic site, hike another 3km to falls.
Details
Despite other threads on this site that claim you can hike to here, the easiest way to get here is via canoe from Grant Narrows. Launch and cross Grant Narrows being careful not to be run over by motorboats. Once you are on the other side you are safe as there are no motorboats allowed.
Canoeing down the creek is usually very calm, and there is a sign directing you to the campsite. Keep in mind that this water is tidal, and can become very shallow at times. Paddle to waypoint JCT and turn left here, continuing on to waypoint PL-CAMP. Stow the canoe here, be sure to haul it up far from shore as there are still tides here that can come up.
At the campsite, there are several sites for tents and even a metal bear cache box. However, campfires are not allowed.
There are signs directing you to head north down the trail for Widgeon Falls. Hike about 200m to waypoint JCT1, here you have two options, turn right and hike through forest and then along the side of the river to the falls, or stay straight on the road and turn right at the end. I prefer to turn right here and hike up alongside the river, it is much more scenic. There are lots of wooden stairs and neat terrain.
The waypoint CONN is where you can cross over from the road route to the river route.
Continue up to the waypoint FALLS, where, of course, the falls are. If you are hiking back on the road, there is a bit of elevation gain to get back up to the road. The waypoint JCT2 is where the trail from the falls meets the road again.
