Details

The crowds will lay testimony for the beauty of this loop. Start by going right at the first junction and keeping right at the second junction which will take you to Mirror Lake and Lake Agnes. The trail switch backs along the front of the “Big Bee Hive” and goes up an elaborate set of stairs to the first of two tea houses. The crowd will no doubt stop you from venturing in the house so keep going. The trail then follows the north side of Agnes Lake before switch backing up steep terrain to your first high point. Before you head down the other side take a side jaunt to the top of the Big Bee hive and have a bite to eat at the look out, there is minimal elevation gain for this. From there, return back to the top of the switch backs and descend steeply down the south side of the mountain. Eventually the trail flattens out and begins to climb as it parallels the Plain of Six Glaciers. After about 10 KM the trail switch backs a couple more times and tops out on a treed plateau. The second tea house is here; stop in for bite if you can afford it! 2 KM past the tea house the trail rises up the lateral moraine of the Victoria Glacier and it make a great view point and turn around point for the day. Instead of returning the way you came stay right at all the junctions and head directly back to Lake Louise.
