Directions
From Highway #1 (Trans-Canada Highway), head north over the Ironworkers Memorial (Second-Narrows) Bridge in the middle lane. Take the third exit after the bridge (#22a), signed as Mount Seymour Parkway. Turn right onto Mount Seymour Parkway almost immediately and follow it 4.4 km before turning left onto Mount Seymour Road.
Follow Mount Seymour Road as it winds it's way up the mountain. Drive to the end of the large parking lot at the end of the road. Start at the Mount Seymour Trail kiosk, to the left of the Mystery Peak chairlift. Mount Seymour Provincial Park requires parking passes for vehicles during the summer months.
Details
Dinky Peak is a small hill directly north-west of the Mount Seymour ski area. Starting at the Mount Seymour Trail kiosk, walk 100 meters up the main service road and angle left onto the rocky Mount Seymour Trail. Do not continue up the service road. After climbing uphill for a short period of time, a junction on the left marks the start of the Dinky Peak trail. Unless you are familiar with the area, it's easier to hike to Dinky Peak via the first junction on the left and not the second junction 80 meters further up the trail.
The trail is well marked and easy to follow through the forested terrain. 200 meters south of the initial junction, a set of wooden stairs lead up to the summit area. There is lots of room to sit on the rocky terrain at the top, and good views of New Westminister, Coquitlam, and Surrey. To complete the trail as a loop, head back down the stairs and immediately turn left. The trail winds it's way through the forest for another 500 meters, crossing over another small rocky bluff on the way. Continue to the end of the trail, where it joins the First Lake Trail.
Turning right on the First Lake Trail leads back to the Mount Seymour Trail, at the second junction just above where you started. If you decide to turn left on the First Lake Trail, you will end up at First Lake - approximately halfway between the parking lot and Dog Mountain. From First Lake, turn left and hike for one kilometer back to the parking lot to complete the loop.
