Directions

Take Chilliwack Lake Road to the Chipmunk Creek FSR, and turn left at the "T" junction. Travel west along the road roughly 2 km and turn right at a gravel pit and obvious road which heads upward. This is the Chipmunk Creek FSR itself. Follow this road to the Mt. Cheam trailhead.

Details

The Chipmunk Creek FSR is in reasonably good shape and 2WD accesible until you leave Chipmunk Creek valley itself and begin your way up another valley that takes you towards Cheam itself.

4WD or a good VW beetle is recommended once on this spur, as this road is not maintained and can get pretty rough in spots. At the above starting elevation, there is a large parking area and a barricade, so travel on foot must begin at this point.

Continue along the old road, and in roughly 20 minutes, you'll begin on the actual trail, which drops down roughly 50 metres into a lovely subalpine bowl, complete with a swimming hole.

The trail cuts along the side of this bowl, and then begins ascending the west face of Lady Peak, and eventually gains a col between Lady and Cheam Peaks.

The trail now begins rising and switching back and forth along the SouthWest face of Cheam, until the summit is achieved.

Allow a good 4 hours return time from the parking lot to the summit and back.
