Mount Price

Mt Garibaldi with Table Mountain in front.

I recently completed a weekend hike to Mount Price in Garibaldi Provincial Park. It is a long hike but well worth the efforts.

The trail is well flagged. A friend and I, backpacked upto Taylor Meadows, set up camp and then hiked up to Mount Price.

In total, from Garibaldi Lake it is 2.5 hours up to Mount Price - one way.

At the far end of the lake- next to the ranger station- behind the boat shack. There is a flagged trail. This can be easy to miss; since the beginning of the trail is bushy. It is marked at the base with a small cairn.. Trail climbs through the bush for a short distance and then drops to the shore of Garibaldi Lake. As you round the shore of the lake, look for a tape route to your route. There are two big boulders; nearby.. If you reach the boulders on the shore, then you have gone too far. Someone has put pink ribbons beyond the boulders; which leads one to believe the trail is further along. The tape you are looking for is a faded yellow tape.

View across Garibaldi Lake towards Black Tusk
and Panorama Ridge.

Proceed along the trail, to a talus slide. Cross the talus slide and proceed steeply uphill. Turn left here, and follow the marked trail. Next go through another talus slide - staying close to the left edge of the slide. Next you reach a boulder area. Climb around the boulders and then scramble to the top of the ridge. Proceed along ridge to a view point of Mt. Price and Clinker Peak. Make a sharp left hand turn and go down to a meadowy area.

Proceed along the top of the ridge with views of Garibaldi lake and Black Tusk on your left. Traverse along the ridge crest to the end of the ridge. reach the base of Clinker Peak. Although the trail goes along the spine, it is easier to go up the middle - along the talus. climb steeply up to Clinker Peak. Then go along the top, then wathc for the big boulders down in the valley - to pick up the faint trail.. climb down to the base of the valley then climb up to Mount Price. For those that are leary of exposure- there is none on this trail. Upon reaching Mount Price you get spectacular views all around.
