Details
This hike is designed to be done in the offseason when the park is closed. In winter the road is groomed for cross-country skiing and can be snowshoed.
From the park gate take the gravel road into the park. At the road junction stay right, the left route is the one you will return by. The gravel road ends in a parking lot and several canteen and washroom buildings. Continue past these and take the path alongside the beach. Turn left and follow the path down the shoreline to a long bridge over Dollar Lake Brook. On the otherside of the bridge you will see a set of stairs heading up the hill to the campground. You can take these stairs and continue on through the campground, or find a faint unmarked path along the slope above the water. This path takes you alongside the lake for 1 km or so to another small beach. Along the way you will glimpse the campground up the hill through the trees. Once at the small beach, take the stairs up to the campground and follow the dirt road to the right. It will lead back to the main junction. Turn right again and follow the road back to your car at the gate.
There are many side trails, old roads, and game trails in the park that can be used to extend your hike.
