The trail begins at the mud slide at the end of MacKay River Road.

The trail follows the road until an old forest fire area is reached (past Cayuse Creek and close to Pegasus Creek drainage). From here the trail continues up the hill through the old fire area to the top of this unnamed mountain. The top of the mountain offfers a spectacular view, alpine meadows and a lake just beyond the summit.
