From Clinton, drive east on Kelly Lake Road. Turn north on Jesmond Road. Drive 19km to Foundation Creek, which is not named or marked, but which has a concrete building foundation next to the road at the creek. Park here.

From Highway 97 on the south side of Clinton, turn south onto Kelly Lake Road (signed as Clinton-Pavillion Road) and follow it for 16km. Just before Downing Provincial Park and Kelly Lake, turn right onto the well maintained gravel Jesmond Road and drive for 19km. Watch for a barely visible concrete building foundation on the right-side of the road, near unmarked Foundation Creek. Park wherever you can, off of the main road.

Details

Walk up along the creek and cross powerlines. Pick up the trail beyond and follow it east up the creek, staying on the north bank, to the 4km mark where there is a fork in a clearing.

Head left (north) and follow the trail up Mad Dog Mtn's South/southeat ridge. The trail gradually peters out and the last few hundred meters involves bushwacking to the summit along the ridge.
