Details
The climb to the pass is rather steep but if you travel the trail in the summer you will be surrounded by colorful meadows with great views all around. The area is home to many hoary marmot. Some hikers may choose to make this an overnight trip.
Helen Lake (2405m) is reached after 6 km of hiking, and another .09 km will take you to the Helen Lake summit, which is the high point on the trail, or outstanding views. For most, this is a turn around spot. Those who are up for the steep descent to Katherine Lake and Dolomite Pass, have another 2 kms of hiking to the pass (2395m).
