Take Ioco Road to First Ave. in Port moody. Turn right on First Ave, and follow the signs to White Pines Beach/ Sasamat Lake/ Belcarra Park. Once you see the turn-off for White Pines Beach the trailhead is just inside the gate on the right side 20m from the entrance.

Details

Located between Sasamat and Buntzen Lakes, Sugar Mountain is a small forested hill at the southern end of Buntzen Ridge. An old powerline service road that climbs along the hill's western slope has been deactivated and now serves as the Sugar Mountain Trail.

Starting at the gate on Bedwell Bay Road, follow the old roadway that takes you under the power lines. Keep to the right of the power lines, watching for a sign post 12-15 minutes later. Follow the trail to the left and under the power lines as it leads into the bush. The first 30 minutes on the trail is rocky but soon turns to a nice forest path. There are some minor views of Sasamat Lake through the forest to the left.

The trail eventually emerges out at another set of power lines and you will see the old water pipe across the roadway in 50 minutes.

Elevation here is 287m. Follow the trail north keeping the pipe to your left. The hill top in front of you and to your left is where Diez Vistas go to. Within 5 minutes you will be at the turn-off. From here you can either go down to the lake, head up the hill to the Vistas Trail or turn right and go down the hill to the floating bridge at Buntzen Lake and come out at the parking lot.
