Drive State Route 2 to Baring. In the town of Baring, turn north onto Barclay Creek Road #6024. The road is directly across from "Der Baring Store." Cross the railroad track and continue for 4.0 miles to the trailhead.
This is an easier hike that follows Barclay Creek through mixed forest until reaching Barclay Lake at an elevation of 2422 feet. Along the trail, you'll encounter old growth trees, deer ferns, trillium, wood violets, bleeding hearts and salmon berries in season. There are cedar boardwalks leading to a log bridge crossing the creek. Shortly after the bridge, you will arrive at the lake where you'll find fantastic views of the north face of Baring Mountain shooting straight up to 3700 feet.
Expect weekends to be crowded.
