Directions

The trailhead is at the Cline waste transfer site on Highway 11. It can be found on the right (when driving west), shortly before reaching the David Thompson Resort, up a short access road.

Details

Walk around the fence to the left, and pick up the trail directly behind the site. It is a steady, easy incline, with a few muddy sections to be expected if there is recent precipitation. After the first couple kilometers, Mt. Stelfox is visible on your left for much of the trip. After 30-45 minutes, you descend to Whitegoat creek for a few crossings in short succession before picking up steam again. The trail narrows and the underbrush becomes quite dense on the valley floor.

At approximately 5.5 km, you encounter the junction to the trail that leads over Mt. Stelfox and down to Coral Creek. It is a small trail perpendicular to the main trail, thus easily missed, and is marked by a large log. Continue north, crossing some gravel washes. Depending on the time of year, the creek may appear dry, but further on it reappears. Water access is not an issue on this trail.

The valley narrows as the ascent steepens. At treeline, you may want to skip over to the right side of the creek and follow the game trail. It evolves into an easy scramble to the top of the pass overlooking Littlehorn Meadows to the north, and Abraham Lake to the south. There are multiple options here for scrambling or you can descend to the meadows.
