Description

This unit comes ready with a bright, sunlight-readable color display and a worldwide built-in basemap with shaded relief. Nearly two GB of internal memory let you use it with GarminĀ® Custom maps or BirdsEye overlay satellite imagery that lets you see real overhead photos of your destinations to pick routes and campsites, and avoid roadblocks and hazards.

A 3-axis, tilt compensating compass gives you back-up in the unlikely event of satellite reception problems. The altimeter/barometer works for both navigation and weather prediction. And you can share your best routes, tracks, waypoints, and geocaches wirelessly with those who have compatible units.

Title: Takes some getting used to
Score:

Strengths: Some new features, improved on/off button
Weaknesses: Interface, software
Conclusions: The 62s works very well (as it should), but the interface has been greatly changed with a revamped menu design. Features such as how often to make tracking measurements no longer give a time between measurements (as in the 60CSx). Instead, choices include "more" or "less" often. Marking a waypoint is still quick, but Waypoint Averaging is hidden deeper inside the menu.

Waypoints no longer get imported to MapSource. To retrieve this data, users need to open a separate GPX file (stored in drive:\Garmin\GPX).

In my opinion, the 60CSx is superior in useability (because of the menu design) despite some of the intriguing bells and whistles introduced with the 62s.

Title: An improvement from the 60CSX

Strengths: Paperless geocaching, faster, full tracklog support
Weaknesses: The "Squeak"
Conclusions: Bought as an upgrade from my 60CSX as the older unit was having issues displaying the full set of information available in Backroads GPS. This unit shows the full extras database without any issues and is fast at doing so.

The menu system takes a little while to get used to, but once you do, it's nice and logical. Firmware updates have issued some nice tweaks which have made unit much easier to use.
