Description

"Cozy" 2 person 3-1/2 season tent.

Popular with hikers who want a self-supporting tent. The peg-out vestibule, mesh sidewalls, and high front vent help keep condensation down in rainy weather. The clip system allows air circulation, and is colour-coded for easy pole set-up. The window adds natural light if you’re stuck inside during a rainstorm.

Title: Tarn 2 review

Strengths: Cheap and durable 3-1/2 season shelter
Weaknesses: Not as light as some others on the market
Conclusions: I've been very happy with my tarn over the past 5 years. This unit has served me well in everything from wind-driven rain on the west coast trail to snow at -10c in manning park. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for 4 season use, but it's sturdy enough to withstand a bit of winter camping / snow. This tent is rated as a 2 person, but you'd have to be very friendly (or small) to find it acceptable for that use. It's great for me and my gear - my pack fits nicely alongside me.

Title: Hope you're short

Strengths: sturdy, full coverage fly
Weaknesses: ventilation, lack of usable floor length, a little short on headroom and space for 2
Conclusions: I would rate this one at 2 1/2 - 3 stars. Well made with a nice vestibule, but it's too short for anyone near 6' tall, lacks headroom and has poor ventilation. I had a lot of condensation build up in this tent, even with the door open(to allow me to lay down without having both my head and feet jamming against the ends) and the vestibule half unzipped. I couldn't imagine 2 adults in this tent as I practically filled the tent myself. This was the earlier version, not the Tarn 2 'Plus' which has the vent in the top of the vestibule. It suited my 2 youngest daughters well though. Ended up selling it after 1 year.

Strengths: Very sturdy, cheap, full fly
Weaknesses: Size for 2 people, bulky
Conclusions: For the price you can't really go to wrong. Used it in windy, hot, and cold icy conditions and it hasn't failed me yet. The biggest beef is the fact that it is bulky for a very tight 2 person tent.

Title: 'Jack of all 2 Person Tents'
Score:
Written by: Posthole Created Time:5/25/2011 10:53:15 PM
Strengths: versatile, durable, and economic.
Weaknesses: heavy and somewhat cramped
Conclusions: The Tarn 2 is the best 'all around' tent I have owned. While it is neither the lightest tent available, or particularly well suited for winter conditions, it fills a niche role well between light backpacking tents/shelters and heavier 4 season tents.

The only major drawback to using the tent in winter conditions vs a 4 season tent(aside from warmth) is that the tent will not shed snowfall on its own.
