I've been pakcing the Tru brand (sold at MEC etc) brand of bangers and flares around on my pack for 4 years, and had never had occasion to use either.
Last weekend, with all the banging and spark-flying in my neighborhood I took 2 boxes of expired (11/08) and one box of new (exp 06/10) mixed bangers and flares out onto the deck and let fly.
The plastic base to the round made it finicky to load, cross-threading was an issue. I did intentionally cross-thread and successfully fire one of each. They all perfomed well, with flare heights of about 50m (est by tree tops) and banger ranges in the 30-40m range (paced).
All in all a fairly impressive product that perfomed as advertised, although I wouldn't want to have to put out a quick salvo of them.
