Title: Great all-round harness
Score:
Written by: johngenx Created Time:4/30/2009 8:58:54 AM
Strengths: Fully adjustable, ice clipper slots, good padding, drop seat, rear haul loop
Weaknesses: Heavy compared to others, floppy gear loops when on rock
Conclusions: I use this harness more than any other I own. It's very comfortable and easy to get on/off when wearing crampons. The waist and leg loops have quite a bit of adjustability, meaning it accomodates changing of layers easily. You have to double-back the buckles, but that is the price for ease of on/off. The gear loops fall nice and flat, which is great for wearing a pack, but I find a little pain when on rock, but that's just a personal thing, and would not stop me from recommending the harness.

I've been using it regularly for two years now, and it's wearing very well. Materials seem excellent. I would buy another when this one gets retired.

April 09:

The Blizzard is now "old school" in the harness world. It's still a good harness, but compared to the new WST technology offerings from ArcTeryx, it's bulky, heavy, and not nearly as comfortable. I still like the double back buckles. The rear gear loops are intrusive for ski mountaineering. Still good value though, as Dead-Bird is $$$$!!!

Strengths: fully adjustable
Weaknesses: gear loops are further back than I would like
Conclusions: The only gripes I have are the gear loops are further back than I would like, and that there is premature wear on the webbing of the leg loops. It's a comfy harness though.
