Title: Very good bag for a great price

Strengths: weight, full zip, compatibility, 800+ power fill Down fill
Weaknesses: no zipper stiffener, statically charged outer shell(hopefully solved)
Conclusions: This is a great 3 season bag for the go-lite crowd!

This bags packs down small, yet is large on warmth and value. I'd rate this bag at 4 1/2 stars.

The full length zip adds versatility and the bag has a pretty accurate temp rating when used with an insulated sleeping pad. My bag weighed 30g more than MEC's stated weight.

I slept comfy in it, in my TarpTent during a windy thunder/sleet storm @ 6700' and was surprised to find that the temps had fallen to -2.2(28*F) come morning. I thought that I would miss MEC's usual neck yoke/muff arrangement but found that it works well with out it, saving more weight.

During the 20+ bag nights so far, this bag keeps on surprising me as far as the weight/comfort factor is concerned.

This bag's outer shell seems to be statically charged and attracts all manner of 'grit' to it. I did find however, that when I put a 'Bounce' fabric softener sheet in with the stuff sac, as an experiment, that seemed to disappear.

The one nit pick I do have(minor one) is that you have to be a bit careful when zipping/unzipping the bag so as to not get the zipper stuck/snagged on the bag's shell. Take things slow and all is great.

Title: Excellent all-around value

Strengths: Cozy, light, small
Weaknesses: Zipper
Conclusions: I just started backpacking, and knew I needed to get a light, compact bag. I decided to try this MEC Merlin bag, and it was a great experience for my first mummy bag. I was able to snuggle up the draw string really nice to keep the heat in. While others were wearing multiple layers of clothing in their bags, I didn't have to and was very comfortable. It packs up really small with a compression/stuff sack. As others have already stated, the zipper is fussy, but that's a tiny nitpick for an otherwise great product.

Title: Sweet warm light bag

Strengths: Light, warm, comfy, packs down very small.
Weaknesses: Zipper gets stuck
Conclusions: Great bag. I've used it in Summer and Winter. On a 5 day hike, it's super light weight and overall comfort is appreciated. The zipper some times catches on fabric if you zip it up too quickly, so zip slow and careful. I used it in a snow cave with a Penguin overbag and the combo kept me nice and toasty. I've also used it on camping expeditions and overnight hikes. It takes up almost no space in the backpack. I haven't had any static issues with it like others report.
