DescriptionLong a favourite of MEC members, this versatile rectangular tarp has been reincarnated in an extraordinary nylon fabric, silicone-coated on both sides. Not only is the fabric awesomely light and compact, it has incredible tear-resistance. Ordinary polyurethane waterproof coating locks up the strands of a fabric, so that when it is stressed, all the load is borne by a few threads. This can lead to domino-like progressive tearing. In silicon-coated fabric the strands remain free to slide past one another, so that when it is pulled, they rearrange themselves to share the load across a wide area.
The removable stuff sack can be placed on a staff, paddle, or ski pole for use as an internal support. Or the tarp can be suspended from the corresponding outside loop. Both options allow you to rig the tarp pyramid-style. Thanks to the thoughtfully placed grommets and corner webbing loops, your cunning and imagination are the only limits to additional set-up options. Possible configurations include the A-frame, or hung corner-to-corner to make a diagonal ridgeline.

| Conclusions: |
This lightweight tarp should be in everyone's pack for an emergency shelter/sun shade.
Packs up to almost nothing, weighs slightly more than nothing and rain/snow just seem to keep on beading/sliding right off of it.
Amazingly strong stuff, although I haven't had it long enough to determine just how durable it is, but is holding up well so far.
One thing about silnylon is that it stretches when it gets wet/damp but a little 're-adjusting' of your guy lines takes care of that.
I like it.
Mine tips my scales at just 371g
