Description

These 1.5cm-thick pads are heat moulded from laminated EVA closed-cell foam. The moulded symmetric ridge pattern makes the foam a little more compressible under body weight, for greater softness and comfort (but make sure to dust off any snow when winter camping – the moulded valleys can collect snowmelt).

The three-quarter length is good for shorter people, or for full-length folks who want to save weight by using spare clothes or the padding from their backpack under their head and feet. Suitable for three-season use, or four-season when combined with another pad.

* Laminated EVA closed-cell foam.

* R-value (measures the insulation provided) is 2.6.

Features

Title: Closed cell durability and light weight!

Strengths: Light, cannot be punctured, warm first layer in winter, great for mountaineering
Weaknesses: VERY, very uncomfortable used on its own
Conclusions: This is a fantastic pad, used properly. As a base sleeping layer on a winter trip with an insulated inflating pad on top, it works very well. For alpine bivys on rotten rock that would shred an inflating pad, it's great. But, not comfy! Better than sleeping on bare rock by a mile, but otherwise, it is not substitute for an inlfating pad.

On a mountaineering overnight trip using this pad will assist you with alpine starts, as you wil not have any trouble getting up. (except perhaps for back pain!)

Now, if you are through hiking a long trail and plan on random camping and can find softer places to sleep, this pad could easily suffice as your only pad. But, if you are using National Parks gravelly pads and/or rock, then this is not a luxury choice.
