Title: Tarp love
Score:
Written by: Hiker Boy Created Time:3/13/2007 3:49:40 PM
Strengths: Lightweight and packable
Weaknesses: Just a little too small
Conclusions: I use this in combination with a bivy or often on it's own as a kitchen shelter. I tied shockcord loops to the sewn guyout loops to make it more wind resistent. The only problem I have with it is that I wish it was just a little larger (~6'x8').

Title: Great thing to throw in your pack
Score:
Written by: johngenx Created Time:3/14/2007 1:16:18 PM
Strengths: Durable, super-duper-light
Weaknesses: Tough to get back in the stuff-sack!
Conclusions: What a great little tarp for fast-packing and all kinds of uses. Makes a great eating shelter, and on occasion I've quickly rigged an impromptu shelter in the alpine to wait out a fast moving storm. If you're not flying solo, the SilTarp 2 is a MUCH better choice, as the plain 'ol SilTarp is way too small for more than one person.

The factory stuff sack is JUST barely big enough, and with cold hands, getting the tarp back in is a real chore.

Title: Near weightless mini-shelter
Score:
Written by: ChuckLW Created Time:3/28/2007 12:14:18 AM
Strengths: Near weightless & packs down to nothing
Weaknesses: mini
Conclusions: Whenever the weather looks dubious I throw this little item in the pack as an emergency and cooking shelter. It packs smaller than a pair of socks and weighs little more. Multiple guy loops provide lots of pitching options.
